Privacy
This service looks up public agency records. You do not need to provide personal information to use it.
Scope. This notice covers the GovBot Public Lands & Wildfire Perimeters service at lands-api.govbot.ai. The ChatGPT plugin is in preparation and has not been submitted or published in any OpenAI directory.
What a request contains
When a tool is used, its arguments are the values supplied for that lookup: point coordinates, a state, a protected-area name, or a fire perimeter identifier. No account, sign-in, API key, payment or subscription is required, and the service does not ask for your home location or any personal address. Please use public research points, names and states only.
Where requests go
The service sends these values directly to fixed public agency map services, not to any other GovBot upstream service:
- Bureau of Land Management, national Surface Management Agency map service
- U.S. Geological Survey, PAD-US Manager Name feature service
- National Interagency Fire Center, WFIGS Current Interagency Fire Perimeters
Each agency, and the hosting platform it uses, processes the requests it receives under its own practices.
Transient caching
Agency source responses, and the query keys that contain the public research inputs for each lookup (coordinates, area or search parameters, or record identifiers), are held in bounded process memory. Responses are eligible for reuse for a limited time after retrieval: fire query responses 2 minutes, land query responses 10 minutes, and agency layer metadata 24 hours (fire layer metadata 1 minute). These limits govern reuse, not deletion: an expired entry may remain in memory until a later lookup of the same key, replacement or capacity eviction, or process exit. The service has no application database and no conversation archive.
Operational request logs
The service runs on Google Cloud, which generates operational HTTP request logs for hosted services. These logs can include the requesting IP address, request path, timestamp, response status, latency and user agent. They are kept in the Google Cloud project's _Default log bucket, which is configured to retain logs for 30 days.
Support email
If you write to hello@govbot.ai, your message is retained until it is manually deleted. There is no fixed deletion schedule.
What we do not do
- No sale of data, no advertising, no payments or transactions.
- No user accounts or agency credentials.
OpenAI
When you use this plugin through ChatGPT, OpenAI handles your conversation under its own, separate privacy practices.
